Visiting the Field of Dreams
Growing up one of my favorite movies to watch with my dad was Field of Dreams. We’d watch it sometimes once a week. I’d pop popcorn and he’d get the VCR ready. I know every line. We watched it so many times I think we drove my mom crazy. It’s still one of my favorite movies.
My husband and I spent the weekend in Dubuque, IA and on our way there I saw the exit for Dyersville. Dyersville, IA is where they filmed Field of Dreams. Needless to say I totally geeked out and my husband graciously agreed to make a stop on our drive home.
It was beautiful! It looked exactly like it did in the movie. I just walked around taking it all in.
It was kind of surreal to sit on those bleachers and stare out into the cornfield. I really wish my dad could have been there with us. In fact next time he’s up here we are totally driving there to visit again.
As I looked around all I could think about was a line from the movie “Is this heaven? No, it’s Iowa” And it is beautiful!
It was pretty cool to see people practicing on the diamond. There was also a little league that came out to take their team pictures in front of the house and the cornfield.
We even walked through the corn field. I didn’t see any of the players – just a lot of corn stalks.
Of course you can buy all sorts of memorabilia while there and even pay to take a tour of the house. Tours were over for the day when we showed up.
Field of Dreams, released in 1989, is a movie that has inspired millions and became an Academy Award nominee for “Best Picture of the Year.” Welcome to this home, this farm, this baseball field, this little piece of heaven on earth. Welcome to this place where reality mixes with fantasy and dreams can come true.

We just watched that movie a few weeks ago and I still love it! I had no idea you could visit the actual field from the movie, that sounds like such fun!

We’ve stopped before with the kids to run the bases. It is a fun landmark to visit in Iowa 🙂
