The Coco Premiere was a Magical Experience
Close your eyes and listen. Do you hear it? It’s a mariachi band playing and there are squeals from the dancers as they dance in their colorful costumes around the marigold carpet.

The air around you smells like tacos, tamales, elotes, and churros.
That my friends is what I heard and smelled when I entered the tent on Hollywood Blvd. The pre-party for Disney Pixar’s Coco was magical.
And it was not a red carpet, but a marigold carpet covered in marigold petals. It was so vivid and bright.

There were numerous stations where you could take pictures, get a temporary tattoo, and make crafts. It had a carnival like feel to it.
And the celebrities were every where.

I felt like I had been taken away to a street festival in Mexico. It was so much fun.

The reason we were all gathered was to celebrate the release of Disney Pixar’s Coco!
It was not at all what I had expected and honestly I’m not sure what I thought it was going to be about.

And maybe that’s because I didn’t really understand what Dias de las Muertas (Day of the Dead) was. I just saw skeletons and figured it had to do with Halloween. I was totally off. The movie does an excellent job explaining what the holiday is about.

While the movie is about the Mexican holiday it’s not only about it. It’s a story of family that can be translated into any culture.
It’s not just the story that is beautiful, but the animation is amazing. The colors are so bright and vivid. During many of the scenes I forgot that I was watching an animation.

In the film we follow the main character, Miguel, as he meets his extended family in the land of the dead. And just like any family there are certain quirkier members than others. This family was no exception and I fell in love with them.

The best word to describe the story I can find is “beautiful”. I don’t think that word does it justice, but plain and simple it is beautiful. I completely cried watching the movie. Not Mufasa tears, but tears from all the good feels.
Trust me, this is one you don’t want to miss.
