I may have been born in Florida, but Iowa is my home.  I love living in the small town of Northwood.  The town has been around since the late 1800’s and I had a chance to check out our Worth County Historical Museum and some of the other landmarks here in town.

The museum itself is filled with history and memorabilia.

It was a lot of fun to walk around and look at everything.

My two favorite stops were actually outside the museum.

The first was the old school house. It was actually transported into town, but we had a chance to hear from some one who actually attended school at the school house.Taking a Look at our Past at the Worth Historical Museum

She had the most incredible stories and so much knowledge. We spent quite a while listening and asking questions. The woman is a wealth of information.

She really brought the history to life. I could have hung out with her all day.

My second favorite was the small house a few blocks west of the museum.

The house was so small. I can’t imagine living there with small children and raising a family there. It was a lot of fun to see and check out. I of course climbed the stairs first. It was really neat to spend time in this house from the past.

I also learned that they bring our elementary kids out for field trips to learn about the town’s history.  What a great way to pass on our history to the next generations.

I had a great time learning about the past from the staff and would highly suggest stopping by if you’re a local or a visitor.

I just love these kinds of places, taking a peek into the lives lived so long ago. That schoolroom is so cool.

If you get the chance, check out Greenfield Village in Dearborn, MI. The Henry Ford Museum is huge and the village is an extraordinary visit to the past!

This sounds like such a cool experience! My grandma taught in a one-room school house and told us lots of stories. I’ve never actually gotten to visit one so I loved learning through your post.
