Spooky Brain Cupcakes

Spooky Brain Cupcakes

I love holidays and being festive so with Halloween around the corner I headed to Family Dollar for some inspiration.

Spooky Brain Cupcakes

When I saw the Fanta® on the shelf it gave me a brilliant idea.  I grabbed the Orange and one of the other fun flavors, Strawberry.  Fanta is 100% natural soft drink inspired by real fruit flavors and it’s also delicious.

Spooky Brain Cupcakes

Have you ever heard of soda cakes? I see them all over Facebook and Pinterest and decided to make my own. If you haven’t tried it yet it’s really easy.  It literally takes one package of cake mix and one 12 ounce can of pop.

Spooky Brain Cupcakes

I used plain vanilla cake mix and mixed the Orange Fanta with one and the Strawberry Fanta with the other one.

Spooky Brain Cupcakes

And that’s it – just the pop and the cake mix.

Spooky Brain Cupcakes

You mix it up really well and it’s ready to bake.

Spooky Brain Cupcakes

I filled my cupcake tin and baked according to the directions on the cake box.

Spooky Brain Cupcakes

The cupcakes came out incredibly moist and were flavored orange and strawberry.

So here comes the fun part – the frosting! I chose vanilla frosting and put in a couple drops of red food coloring and mixed until pink for the “brain”. It’s super easy.

  1. Frost the cupcake completely.
  2. Using a piping bag draw two parallel lines down the center of the cupcake.
  3. Draw squiggles on each side of the lines.

Spooky Brain Cupcakes

Its just that easy.  Isn’t it spooktacular?!

Spooky Brain Cupcakes

I think they came out adorable.

They’re simple to make for your Halloween festivities!

I have never heard of soda cakes before, thank you so much for sharing! So you literally just mix cake mix and soda, no eggs and oil? I just want to make sure I make them correctly because my kids are going to love them! 🙂
