Protecting Myself #TruckerTuesday
In order to learn to drive a semi truck I went to a truck driving school and trained with mentors before they let me have my own truck. One of the places I trained was in Mississippi. My trainer, Greg, had daughters and told me he wanted me to learn how to walk in a truck stop.
He took me to a truck stop and explained where someone could hide and also explained that I had to walk like I owned the place. The truck stop he took me too was the kind that gives truck stops a bad name. It smelled like urine and it’s regulars seemed to be a shady group. Yes, it was gross. He parked as far away from the entrance as he could and told me to walk. I was training with him and 3 other guys. They said they’d run and help me if I ran into trouble. So I took a breath, not to deep of one thanks to the stench, and walked. I kept repeating to myself “if anyone tries to mess with me I’ll kick their butt”.
Not only did I feel more confident, but I’ve learned that those looking to do harm really do prey on those they think will be easier or not put up a fight.
I also learned that by carrying a baseball bat, glove, and ball not only could I exercise, but I could also defend myself if someone where to break into my cab.
A nice flashlight will also help me see and double as a way to protect myself.
What are some of the ways you stay safe when you’re by yourself?
Safe travels!

I use to have a friend who was a truck driver. Im sure she still is. She use to say that there were a few places that made her feel she had to stay on guard for fear of her safety, but she also said most of the male drivers looked out for her. She referred to them as her trucker family.

I 100% agree. It really is like a family the way the majority of drivers look out for each other 🙂

It is true that people look for easy prey unfortunately. I am glad you carried the baseball bat. I enjoy reading your Trucker Tuesday post .
