Homemade Finger Paint Recipe
I love art and creating. In fact when I have writers block I often create to get my thoughts flowing again. I love encouraging little ones to create too. And yes, that can sometimes mean there’s a mess involved, but it’s so worth it!
Finger paint is a great way to create with your littles and I have a great tutorial to make your own non toxic finger paint.
Who wouldn’t love finger paints that are 100% non-toxic? These paints are made of all edible ingredients, not that you want your kid to snack on cornstarch and salt…but since they sometimes have a way of putting everything to the taste test you can rest a little easier knowing these are chemical free.
To make your finger paint it just takes a few simple ingredients that you probably already have at home.
- 2 cups cold water
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 3 tbsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
Mix all of the ingredients together in a saucepan over medium heat. It takes about 10 minutes. I was thinking I did something wrong, but at about the 10 minute mark it suddenly thickened super quick.
Then scoop your mixture into containers and add food coloring. It only took a few drops. It absorbed the color really well.
Make sure to store them in an air tight container after cooled so they do not dry out.
They had so much fun playing with the colors and making their designs.
They also had fun making quite the mess which is why I was really glad we had Huggies One & Done and the Huggies Simply Clean wipes.
I found them in the personal care section of Walmart.
The Huggies One & Done wipes are thicker and textured which is perfect for cleaning up tough messes.
And the Huggies Simply Clean wipes are perfect for hands and faces.
Right now you can save $0.50 off any Huggies wipes at Walmart while supplies last. This coupon is available through out the summer months so make sure to check back periodically to print the coupon for use through out the summer!

This seems like such an easy recipe! To reply to an earlier comment, we have a bigger old shirt that we use as a paint shirt for our son. No worries about paint on good clothes 🙂
Samantha B. says
How difficult will it be to get the paint out of clothing in the wash? Any advice?
Donna says
I think it would depend on the food coloring you used. The rest of the ingredients would be fine.
