Grandma’s Easy Goulash Recipe
{the gluten free version}
My grandmother moved in with us when I was younger and I have a lot of memories of her cooking. That’s probably because she loved to be in the kitchen. She was always cooking something and the house would smell so good when we would come home from school.
One of the dishes she made was goulash and it was so good. I made this the other night and from start to finish it took about 30 minutes. It’s super easy to put together, everyone loved it, and best of all (for me), it’s gluten free! Okay, so I used gluten free noodles and if you don’t want to do that you can totally use your standard elbow macaroni.
I diced up one onion and combined it with 1.5 lbs of ground beef. I cooked them on medium heat until the meat was browned. While that was cooking I cooked my noodles in another pot according to the box directions.
In a separate pan (on the counter and not on the stove) I dumped two cans of stewed tomatoes and mashed up the tomatoes. You can do this as much or as little to your liking. I added in some ketchup, garlic salt, pepper, chili powder, and hot sauce.
When the meat and noodles were done cooking I drained each of them and added them to my tomato mixture. I then transferred the pan with everything in it to the stove on low heat and stirred it completely.
And it’s just that simple!
Do you have a special dish you remember your grandparents making?
- 1.5 lbs of ground beef
- 1 12 oz box gluten free pasta
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 14.5 oz cans stewed tomatoes
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 2 tsp garlic salt
- 2 tsp chili powder
- 2 tsp (or more) hot sauce
- Brown ground meat and diced onion over medium heat.
- Cook pasta according to box directions.
- Mix remainder of ingredients in larger pan. Mash tomatoes to smaller, bite sized pieces.
- Drain pasta and meat when finished cooking and add to tomato mixture.
- Mix everything over low heat.
- Enjoy!

I’m not gluten free, but I’ve been experimenting with homemade seitan instead of meat, I’d love to try this. I haven’t made goulash in ages.
