Adventures in South Dakota
#TruckerTuesday
Adventure in South Dakota? Growing up in Florida I didn’t know much about South Dakota except for Mount Rushmore. We had driven I90 through South Dakota and kept seeing signs for Wall Drug. We decided to stop one day and spend some time there.
Basically it was a bunch of fun novelty stores and there were all sorts of fun photo opps.
It was more like a big novelty mall. You could get actual drug store items as well as gifts and tourist items.
There was even a gorilla playing the piano! I saw a lot of families there too. I would think kids would have lots of fun.
Myles and I of course took full advantage of all the photo opportunities.
I love looking back at our photos. We always have so much fun together.
While we were there we of course had to take some old time photos. They have a portrait studio with all sorts of props.
We also got some great gifts for our nephews and nieces. The gold flakes in a bottle were especially a hit. The boys ran around with their gold and they still have them.
There was also fantastic food – homemade donuts, hot beef sandwiches, buffalo burgers, and more!
The Wall Drug Store got its start during the Depression years by offering Free Ice Water to thirsty travelers. From their beginning in 1931 to today, the family-owned and run business continues what their reputation was and is built on — giving friendly service to the public!

We stopped at Wall Drug when we took our #FlintsTakeSD vacation. Honestly, all 6 of us were disappointed. It had changed so much since I was young and it was overwhelming and overcrowded. The boys didn’t really enjoy it except for the large animals and a few picture opportunities!

Been to Wall Drug a couple of times. Last summer we stopped as a family (along with practically all other I-90 tourist attractions in South Dakota) and Ian was almost in disbelief that Wall Drug was just a bunch of shops connected together. He did enjoy his $0.05 coffee though!

Yep. We went there with the boys on our mega trip out west and when we were there there were tons of scruffy bikers. I distinctly remember Aaron saying very loudly “Mom–look at that man with all the drawings on his arms!”. Guess they hadn’t seen many tattoos until then. Fun place to visit for sure.
