School House Beach in Door County, WI

I grew up in South Florida so a beach to me was the sand and the ocean. I was a bit surprised when I moved to the midwest and they talked about going to the beach. Geography was not my best subject, but I knew we weren’t a coastal state. 😉

When locals say they’re going to the beach what they really mean is the lake.  While it’s not the ocean, it’s still beautiful and relaxing.  When I headed to Door County in Wisconsin with some of my fellow North Iowa Bloggers we were told by so many people that we had to check out School House Beach on Washington Island.

They weren’t kidding – the beach is beautiful.

My favorite part was the actual “beach” – it’s made of white, smooth stones.   They were so smooth.  I totally would have taken a few back with me, but you can actually be fined for it. Really, they have a sign posted warning you not to take any of the stones.

We had such a great time there. If I lived closer I could totally see myself spending lots of time there reading a book.

Have you been to School House Beach? Do you have a favorite beach?

Wow, this brings back so many childhood memories for me! We used to camp/vacation in Door County when I was growing up. Love it there – so pretty!

I don’t think I’ve been to School House Beach and I was born and raised here. Looks like my kind of beach though, rocks instead of sand!

I LOVE the look of that “beach” (and your curls are awesome!). Are the stones native to the area? or did they bring them in for the beach, do you know? Just curious. Thanks for sharing!

As far as I know they’re native. It’s on an island you have to take a ferry to. And thanks for the compliment! 🙂

It looks lovely. I always like a smooth stone beach – great way to get the heat into your bones!
