Celebrating Autumn’s Harvest at Windrose Farm in Paso Robles
There is something wonderful about eating fresh food on a farm. I have really come to appreciate farming since living in the Midwest. Last month I had the opportunity to attend Sunset SAVOR the Central Coast in CA. They offered these amazing adventure tours to highlight some of the awesomeness of the California central coast. I chose to attend the Celebration of Autumn’s Harvest at Windrose Farm in Paso Robles.
The farm was absolutely beautiful. It was incredibly peaceful. I enjoyed sitting in one of their many chairs, breathing in the fresh air, and soaking up the warm sun. It was a perfect start to a perfect day.
Farmer Bill gave us an educational tour of the farm explaining it’s history and also teaching us about the local crop. We got to pick some of the apples and tomatillos from his farm and eat them as we were walking around. It was a very cool experience eating the fresh food straight from the plant.
One of the coolest things I saw on the tour was the smoker. Bill built this smoker specifically for his farm. He was roasting tomatoes, jalapeños, and garlic. It smelled so good!
We also had the most amazing Bloody Mary’s. I really didn’t think I was a fan of Bloody Mary’s but this was like no other I had tasted. It was comprised of three ingredients – tomatoes, chipotle, and vodka. It was so fresh and delicious. I loved how the flavors swirled around in my mouth. Monica from Re:Find brought the spirits. What is in the name? RE:FIND – FINDing a purpose for saignée, the prized free-run juice removed prior to fermentation to enhance wine quality, and REfining it into top-shelf spirits.
Lunch was beyond amazing! Everything was so good and so fresh. I loved the polenta and my favorite was dessert. The salted caramel was delicious. I seriously thought about licking the plate. I did not do that, but it totally crossed my mind.
The whole afternoon was fabulous. If you visit the central coast of California Windrose Farm is a must see. They also have a gift shop so you can bring part of them home with you.
